India Age Calculator: Exact Age in Years, Months and Days

How to calculate your age today
To calculate your current age, choose Age Today and enter the date of birth in DD, MM and YYYY format. DD is the day, MM is the month and YYYY is the four-digit year. For example, 13 September 2016 is entered as 13, 09 and 2016. Select Calculate Age and the result appears on the same page. The main result shows completed years, months and days. The summary also shows completed months, total days, completed weeks and approximate total hours based on whole calendar days.
Calculate age on a specific date
Sometimes a form asks for age “as on” a specific date rather than age today. In that case, choose Age on a Date and enter both the date of birth and the target date. This is useful for school or exam forms, sports registrations, application cut-off dates, insurance forms and other situations where the required age must be checked on a fixed date. The calculator does not decide whether a person is legally eligible for a particular programme; it only provides a calendar calculation. Always follow the rules and date conventions stated by the organisation requesting the information.
Date validation and leap years
The calculator validates dates before calculating. It rejects impossible dates such as 31 February and does not allow a target date that is earlier than the date of birth. Leap years are handled using calendar arithmetic. For a birth date of 29 February, calculations in a non-leap year use the last valid day of February when a year or month adjustment requires a valid date. This keeps the calculation consistent, but an institution or law may use a different convention for a specific eligibility decision.
Why calendar age is different from dividing by 365
Years, months and days are not all the same length, so an exact age should not be calculated by simply dividing the number of days by 365. Months can have 28, 29, 30 or 31 days, and leap years add an extra day. This calculator first works out completed calendar years, then completed calendar months, and finally the remaining calendar days. Total days are calculated separately from the two dates. That is why the detailed result can be more useful than a single decimal number such as 28.4 years.
